Valley School Year 11 Presentation Ceremony

Year 11 students at Valley School recieved their Progress Files, full of certificates, in preparation for leaving the school and moving on into their chosen career pathways.

The guests of honour were:
Former Valley pupil and England 2003 Rugby World Cup Winning physiotherapist Phil Pask, who presented the students with their progress files and Group Managing Director of the OSL Group, (who have invested their time and money in the Valley students, especially in the area of Work Related Learning) Mr. David Grey

The ceremony was opened by Valley Headteacher, Brian Rossiter, Who praised the students for their outstanding appearance on the day and for their commitment, effort and hard work over the last 5 years.

David Grey presented the Work Experience awards (in order to recieve a Work Experience Award, students had to be recommended by their employer for the award, stipulating their excellence!) to 20 students, who excelled on their placement. The placements were not all Worksop based and many of the students have secured full time or part-time posts when they leave school. David then made presentations to the top achieving students in each curriculum area, with John Pilkington and Helen Cain recieving awards for top achieving boy and girl, respectively.

The students were then entertained by a film presented by Phil Pask, showing some of his work with the England and British Lions Rugby teams, with most students interested in the progress of Johnny Wilkinson, who is targeting England return and hopes to play in next years' World Cup. Phil presented each of the 300 students with their progress files, wishing them good luck in the future.

Head of year 11, Alan Maddocks, complemented the students on their positive attitude, behaviour and help towards each. He then presented Student James Baines with his special award. James, who is blind and has cerebral palsy, has been an outstanding student at Valley. He recieved a Work Experience award, when he worked at Worksop Library, he also recieved the prestigious Princess Diana Award in 2003 for his effort and commitment. James, is a keen Nottingham Forest supporter and goes to most home games. He is also interested in horse racing and even owns a racehorse! When James leaves school, he is interested in a career in radio presenting!
